Malibu park project discussed The Malibu City Council and Planning Commission will host the second Malibu Legacy Park Project public workshop at 6 p.m. tonight, Thurs., Aug. 30, at Malibu City Hall, 23815 Stuart Ranch Road. The meeting will allow the public to hear more about what the consultant team has learned and applied to the project design in the four months since the first workshop. The community will be allowed to provide input and feedback on the preliminary design. Legacy Park is a comprehensive plan to improve wastewater and stormwater management throughout the civic center area to improve the water quality of Malibu Creek, Malibu Lagoon and Surfrider Beach. The project's primary objective is to improve water quality, but plans also include the construction of a passive recreation area, open space landscaping and opportunities for environmental education. Some of the preliminary designs that will be discussed include riparian habitat, native tree woodlands, coastal prairie grasses, vernal pools, coastal bluff vegetation, stormwater detention wetlands, trails and the educational element. Preliminary designs for the offsite wastewater facility will include the collection system options and design criteria for treatment to meet state and federal regulations. |
