Sumac Elementary kicks off new year with school shopping

Sumac Elementary School in Agoura Hills will host its second annual Kick-Off Day on Tues., Aug. 28 at 6050 N. Calmfield Ave.

The event will have staggered start times. Families new to the school should arrive at 4 p.m., returning families with last names beginning with the letters A through L at 4:45 p.m. and returning families with last names M through Z at 5:30 p.m. Class assignments will be posted inside the multipurpose room at these times.

Families will have the opportunity to purchase school supplies, Sumac apparel and yearbooks; register for the Great Race of Agoura; and contribute to Direct Donation.

Free raffle tickets will be given out for each $50 that a family contributes to Sumac's Direct Donation Drive before Back-to-School night on Sept. 6. Direct Donation pays for educational programming that is not paid for by taxes, including partial salaries for music, computer, PE and library specialists. The grand prize for the raffle is a flat-screen TV donated by Mr. Music USA.

Kickoff Day will also provide families with information about volunteer opportunities, E-scrip sign-ups and Sumac's after-school enrichment program.

A light dinner of pasta and salad will be available for purchase. Spanishspeaking volunteers will be available to help with translation.

Classes at Sumac resume Wed., Aug. 29.
