More homework on hydrogen fuel Mr. Puls makes an argument for the use of hydrogen as a fuel (Aug. 16). He doesn't, however, give any information as to how it might be obtained from the ocean's waters. The energy that is needed to release it must come from someplace, which he fails to mention at all. Currently, most of our energy comes from fossil fuels, which some claim are ruining our environment, and others claim will continue to engulf us in wars that sap our strength and divide the country. How does he explain his statement that there is a "total lack of environmental impact"? Nor does he even allude to the cost of releasing the hydrogen from the ocean and then delivering it to the consumer. Does the hydrogen atom require more or less energy to separate it from water than it will produce when properly harnessed? If one is to be persuaded to support his argument, he'll have to come up with the practicality of his proposal, and get beyond the "gee whiz, isn't it a great idea" stage. Will Stokes Calabasas |
