Renters need consideration, too

All citizens of the city of Calabasas deserve the attention and care of the city, not just the homeowners. To place inordinate attention on homeowners while casting apartment renters aside by overlooking their concerns time and time again is akin to an aristocratic society bereft of compassion. Where have we seen this before and how was it resolved?

There are more pressing issues in the tenant community outside the scope of the "affordable housing program."

The General Plan Advisory Committee should consider the following proposal for the General Plan Housing Improvement Program:

In order to lesson the "negative fiscal impact" for the city in building affordable housing units in accordance with state guidelines, and in order to foster the preservation of existing affordable rental units, the city of Calabasas should be more active and more committed to preserving existing apartment housing affordability by exercising local jurisdiction while at the same time lobbying the California Departing of Housing and Community Development for revision/modification of their goals and mission statement so that municipalities, such as the city of Calabasas, may receive credit for the preservation of existing apartment housing affordability, by exercising local jurisdiction, thereby easing the burden on the city while providing additional affordable housing through preservation of existing affordable apartment housing.
