Searching for a second chance
Miss Ellie, a 2-year-old poodle-bichon mix, was set to be euthanized Aug. 13 before Oz Animal Rescue group stepped in to save her. Despite her narrow escape, Miss Ellie isn't in the clear just yet. Racked with medical problems, Miss Ellie cannot use her hind legs and needs Xrays, a neurologist appointment, possible surgery, care of her open wounds and most likely a wheelchair. "Despite her condition, she is playful and eager to live," said Tammy Sue Roberts, head of Oz Animal Rescue. "Miss Ellie has a grand spirit. She is full of spunk and determination. She loves to play and interact with other dogs, and loves to go on walks." Miss Ellie, dumped at a local shelter in bad condition, is now walking with a makeshift sling under her belly to hold her legs up. She gets around by dragging her legs and scooting her bottom, which creates sores. Oz Animal Rescue raises money for supplies and medical treatments before finding an adoptive family for the dogs they save. After Miss Ellie is treated and fitted for a sling or wheelchair, Roberts said they will look for a permanent home for her.
