Hydrogen is best fuel for the future I am a mechanical engineer with a master's degree and a strong chemistry background. And I know that hydrogen far surpasses any other possible fuel because of availability (all the ocean's water) and total lack of environmental impact. Have you seen the History Channel's documentary show on hydrogen cars where they show that the only thing coming out of the exhaust pipe is pure water? The driver then holds a glass under the exhaust pipe and catches the water dripping out and then drinks it. No other fuel is that clean. All others are hydrocarbons that naturally contain carbon, and that is the crux of the environmental problem. Substituting natural gas or ethanol or diesel or vegetable oil or any hydrocarbon is no better than gasoline. That will not solve our problems. The country of Iceland is devoted to hydrogen for all cars in the entire nation. Denmark will convert as well. Denmark is on the mainland of Europe, and once Denmark converts the rest of Europe will not be far behind. The article goes on to say that 9 million tons of hydrogen are made each year in the U.S. alone, enough to power 30 million cars. Let's get going and stop wasting our efforts on ethanol and other fuels. Norman Puls Agoura Hills |
