Oak Park Cadette Girl Scouts earn top award

Several members of Girl Scout Troop 972 of Medea Creek Middle School in Oak Park earned the Girl Scout Silver Award. The members are Sana Keshap, Anisha Rajavel, Avni Keshap, Lauren Kaplan, Julie Weinstein, Amy Bellinghiere and Courtney Novak.

Silver is the highest award that can be earned by Cadette Girl Scouts. The award is second to the Gold Award for Senior Girl Scouts. Cadettes are Scouts in sixth through eighth grade.

One part of the award requirements is organizing a community service activity. Troop 972 planned, organized and presented a Thinking Day event for the Whispering Oaks Girl Scout Service Unit, comprising the areas of Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park. About 75 people attended.

Thinking Day is an annual Girl Scout celebration that celebrates different cultures around the world. Each troop attending Thinking Day researches and learns about another country. On the day of the event, the troops get together and learn from each other's projects. They also perform dances from other countries.
