Combatants for Peace to speak on experiences

Two members of Combatants for Peace, an Israeli/Palestinian organization formed to promote nonviolence, will appear at 7 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 23 at the Topanga Community House, 1440 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd.

Ra'ed Haddar is a Palesinian who spent three years in an Israeli prison for participating in actions against the Israeli occupation.

Shimon Katz is an Israeli who served four years as an officer in an Israel Defense Force unit. Now members of Combatants for Peace, they are appearing "in order to educate others about their belief that the conflict cannot be resolved through violence," according to a spokesperson.

The presentation is sponsored by the Topanga Peace Alliance, which will provide a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. before the start of the program. A suggested, but not mandatory, a $10 donation will be collected at the door.
