Public invited on water tour Residents interested in finding out more about wastewater treatment are invited to a behindthe-scenes tour of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and Triunfo Sanitation District on Sat., Aug. 18. According to district officials, the tour will afford participants the chance to personally witness the infrastructure of the agencies. The environmental treatment of wastewater will give water district officials the opportunity to educate the public on the challenges of treating wastewater with environmentally sound practices. The free bus tour is scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. "Participants will learn about key water issues and view some of the infrastructure involved in converting wastewater into recycled water and garden compost that benefit the environment," said Jeff Reinhardt, water district customer service and public affairs manager. A complimentary continental breakfast and light lunch will be served. Space is available to residents who live in the Las Virgenes water district and Triunfo service areas. Preregistration is required on a first come, first served basis. The walking tour is restricted to those who are 12 years old and above, Reinhardt said. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Guests need endurance for moderate walking and climbing stairs for tour participation. The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and Triunfo Sanitation District provide wastewater treatment services to the communities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Oak Park, Westlake Village, a portion of Thousand Oaks and adjacent unincorporated areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. To make a reservation for the tour, visit www.LVMWD.com or call (818) 251-2100. - Stephanie Bertholdo |
