Baby lambs born at Leonis Adobe Museum

SOFT TOUCH- Polka Dot Polly tends to her twins born July 25 at Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas.
In the cool shadows of early morning on July 25, Polka Dot Polly the sheep gave birth to not one, but two baby lambs at Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas.

Under the watchful eye of Diane Ramadan, ranch manager, Polly paced through the straw of her pen. As evidence of the special moment began, Diane called to her softly, "That's a girl, Polly, nice and easy."

Wriggling into the world came a cream-colored bundle of fleece. Polly paced again. To Diane's surprise a second bundle followed, this time polka-dot like Polly.

"This is a very exciting occurrence for us at the Adobe," Ramadan said. "It's the first time that babies have been born here in a number of years, and the father is our newly acquired registered merino ram. I'm sure it will delight visitors who come for our Tuesday morning children's program."

Mother ewe and lambs are healthy and comfortable and can be seen in the sheep nursery at the Leonis Adobe. The authentic, nearly 200-year-old Spanish adobe and museum is at 23537 Calabasas Road in Old Town Calabasas.
