Support programs offered for area cancer patients

The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura is offering the following cancer support group workshops in August. All programs are at 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village.

•Dr. Ray Chu will present "Brain tumors: cuttingedge research and practice" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thurs. Aug. 2. Topics include advances in surgical technology and stem cell treatment of brain tumors.

•"Harnessing the power of hypnotherapy" will be presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 16. Paula Getty-Shearer, a certified hypnotherapist, will explain how to use hypnosis to reduce stress and foster healing. The workshop is for cancer patients and their families.

•A program for women in active cancer treatment, "Look good . . . feel better," will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 23. The workshop, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, will offer techniques to restore self-image and cope with appearance-related effects of treatment.
