Keep children out of streets This is to respond to the letter written by Ms. Billig, "No need to be rude about it." I have lived in the Oak Park area for 14 years. In those 14 years this has been my observation: What gives you the right to let your children play in the street? The street is for cars, trucks, etc. The city has spent millions of dollars on parks and recreation. There is a park on every corner, a safe environment for your children. My experiences have been children coming down the road on their skateboards, having a blatant disregard of safety, and staring at the driver as if they should move. I have seen tiny children on their big wheels, their tricycles, in the middle of the street with not an adult in sight. They are almost invisible when driving. How dare you block off streets with your yellow "slow down" signs? As a responsible adult I know how to drive. What worries me is you are addressing the wrong people. Try educating your teenagers I see driving recklessly through our childridden community. You want to keep your children safe. Do not turn the rules around to suit your own purposes. Oh, and I especially love to see the 8- and 9-year-old children in the street on those motorized scooters. This is not your own private Idaho. Do not make other people responsible for your shortcomings. That woman was within her rights going the speed limit. Although her language might have been offensive, I can feel her frustration.
