Westlake business goes solar

MWS Wire Industries of Westlake Village has completed the installation of a gridtied solar-powered electrical system.

At peak production the 912 roof-mounted solar modules collect 155 kilowatts of DC energy, which is converted to 120-kilowatt AC power at the electrical service panel.

MWS contracted with California Green Designs Inc. for the installation.

"The system will produce 40 percent of our annual power consumption, and when the business is closed on weekends and holidays, the power generated will go back into the grid to serve other consumers," said Darrell Friedman, MWS Wire president.

The average household uses about 29 kilowatt-hours per day, and during the sunny summer months MWS Wire's rooftop power plant will produce 35 times that much electrical power.

MWS Wire Industries is a distributor and custom manufacturer of precision bare and insulated wire used in advanced electronic products. The company reuses or recycles nearly 100 percent of the packaging received from suppliers and uses recyclable or biodegradable packaging materials of shipments to customers.
