Plenty to learn at Natural History Museum

The following programs will be presented by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles at 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles.

Meet the curatorial staff from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays July 7, 14 and 28, and from 11 a.m. to noon Sun., July 15. Each week museum staff will present highlights from the museum collection. July's theme is wings, featuring butterflies, birds and other flying creatures.

Critter Club, a program for children ages 3 to 5 with an adult, will learn about "Mysterious Mantids" from 10 to 11 a.m. Sat., July 14.

A family fun day exploring the "World of Wings" will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., July 21. The day includes stories and hands-on activities.

Nature day camps for children in preschool through eighth grade will be from July 9 through Aug. 17. Campers will study the earth's creatures, features and cultures. Children will be provided with handson experiences, creative activities and behind-the-scenes tours. Museum members receive a discount. For information on the camps, call (213) 763-3348.

Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays. Admission is $9 for adults, $6.50 for students and seniors, and $2 for children ages 5 to 12. Admission is free the first Tuesday of each month.
