Adobe names new director

Susan Eastman
The Leonis Adobe board of directors announced the creation of a new executive director position at the museum.

Appointed to the position on an interim basis is Susan Eastman of Woodland Hills. She will report to the Leonis board.

During her 30-year career Eastman has held a variety of positions in both the public and private sectors. Eastman has a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master's in public administration from California State University Northridge.

"I'm joining the museum at an exciting point in its history," Eastman said. "Our programs and reputation are growing, and the museum is facing decisions today that even the brilliant businessman Miguel Leonis could not have imagined."

"We will begin searching immediately to permanently fill the executive director position but would be equally happy to have Susan remain in the job," said Don Adams, board president.

Leonis officials announced that Angela Schwanz would be stepping down as the museum's general manager. Schwanz helped create additional interest and awareness in the museum and played a key role incorporating new exhibits at the Adobe's Plummer House.

Eastman, who moved into the executive director position on June 25, will give the museum additional areas of expertise, a spokesperson said.

The Leonis board referenced Eastman's strong educational background and diversity of experience as two of the main reasons for her appointment.
