Locals heading to military academies

Young people from several area schools have been accepted to U.S. military academies.

Nominees were interviewed by a board in December at an all-day Saturday event and recommendations were made through the competitive nomination process.

Air Force Academy

Andrew Buttitta, 17, Thousand Oaks High School

Justin Landseadel, 18, Oaks Christian School

Randolph Mann, 19, a 2006 graduate of Camarillo High School

U.S. Military Academy

at West Point

Eric Kanney, 17, Thousand Oaks High School

Robert Wolfe, 18, Oaks Christian School

Travis Zahnow, 20, 2005 graduate of Royal High School

Naval Academy

Logan Hershman, 17, Thousand Oaks High School

Josh Ziska, 18, Oaks Christian School.

Merchant Marine Academy

William Short, 20, home schooled.

Rep. Elton Gallegly (RThousand Oaks) either made the nominations or assisted with them.

Academy Information Nights for 2008 appointments will be held in the fall.
