Keeping priorities straight

I read with great sadness about Jim Bruno not running for reelection to Westlake City Council.

We will always appreciate that Mr. Bruno did not hesitate to ask hard, thorough questions about the proposed Lowe's development. It was truly educational in every way, from his questions to the reactions from the proponents.

Mr. Bruno was more aligned with the majority of Westlake residents and their vision for quality of life in Westlake than the rest of the council at large. That he was punished for that and for speaking to his neighbors about Lowe's suitability for Westlake while others sent out 8-by-10 glossy postcards urging us to vote yes on Lowe's creates doubts about the priorities of the present council.

Personally, watching the city relandscape with narrow walking paths, then let it go to weed (Wilma park, resting benches) instead of providing more and wider sidewalks for this incredibly active walking community shows us that a glossy postcard is more important than the actual residents.

I was going to leave this out of my letter, but reading of the death of a walker this last Sunday morning at Agoura and Lindero Roads where there are no sidewalks at all was so sad to me I had to leave it in.

Mr. Bruno's professionalism, ethics and genuine care about the needs of those who live here will be missed. A. Lenert Westlake Village
