Youth can explore church vocations at event The 16th annual Invitation to Service will be from Thurs., Aug. 2 to Sat., Aug. 4 at California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. The event offers youth and young adults ages 15 to 25 the opportunity to explore the roles of pastors, missionaries, deacons, music ministers and youth ministers. The event will include music, small group interaction, recreation, devotional meetings, Bible study and individual consultations with church professionals. The ninth annual Youth Ministry Training Event, which will be held simultaneously, will offer four tracks of youth ministry training including the basics of running a youth program, applying youth ministry fundamentals and spiritual development. Dr. Rollie Martinson, an author and expert in youth and family ministry, will be the keynote speaker. Martinson, a professor at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., serves on the National Council on Family Relations. Registration for Invitation to Service is $120 before Sat., June 30 and $145 after that date. Registration for the Youth Ministry Training Event is $200 for each of the four tracks if received by June 30, and $225 after that date. The commuter price is $165 for each track.
