Brianna Thomas, a third-grade student at White Oak Elementary School, is a young lady on a mission.
When she heard that it was very expensive for American troops to make overseas phone calls, Brianna approached White Oak's student council with an idea. Why not rally the students together to donate money for phone cards for the soldiers abroad.
During the week of May 14, all of the students at White Oak had an identical homework assignment: to write a letter to a soldier fighting in Iraq and include a donation of $1 if they wanted.
The students of White Oak came through. Those letters will be sent to the troops, along with a phone card donated from each class. Thank you for fighting for our freedom. You are very brave to fight in the ware (sic) but I just want to let you know I'm supporting you! I will pray for your safe return home. I bet your family misses you a ton. I hope you can call your family very soon!
Sincerely, Brooke Hinds
