Westlake honors residents

CITIZENSHIP--Sue Klamert, left, and Ayla Nejad are named Citizen and Youth of the Year, respectively, by the city of Westlake Village. Each year the city honors select members of the community for their special contributions to the city.
Sue Klamert and Ayla Nejad were honored as Westlake Village's Citizen and Youth of the Year at the city's May 9 council meeting.

Klamert has worked closely with city staff on the creation of the annual city celebration, serving as the lead volunteer with White Oak Elementary School's Fun Fair portion of the event. Klamert has also overseen the White Oak Fun Run for the past few years.

Ayla is in her junior year at Agoura High School, where she is an honor student. Ayla received the Ken Easum Founders Award for Best Use of Oral History at the 2006 Los Angeles History Day.

Each recipient received a commemorative plaque from the city and will have her name displayed on a perpetual plaque located in the City Hall Council Chambers. A $500 donation has been made to CASA Ventura in Klamert's honor, and Ayla received a $500 college scholarship.

Each year the Westlake Village City Council recognizes residents for making significant contributions to the city by displaying volunteerism, civic pride and commitment to the betterment of the community.
