Folk singer to perform at Bodie House

Concerts at the Bodie House in Agoura Hills will present Rosalie Sorrels at 8 p.m. Sat., June 2.

The cost is a $15 donation, with all proceeds going to the musician. A free dessert/appetizer bar is provided, and food contributions are appreciated.

Rosalie Sorrels is said to be "one of the most wonderful voices in American music, an instrument as mellow and finely aged as an antique viola."

Sorrels began her career as a folklorist in the 1950s. Her songs and stories serve to create and preserve the oral tradition. She was at the Newport Folk Festival in 1966.

In recognition of her role as a creator of and collaborator in the American culture of the second half of the 20th century, UC Santa Cruz has set up a Rosalie Sorrels Archive as part of its Beat Generation Archives.

Sorrels has recorded more than 20 albums and written three books, including "Way Out in Idaho," a collection of songs, stories, pictures and recipes gathered in three years of traveling around her home state. Her most recent recording is "Learned by Livin'-Sung by Heart," a compilation of songs that she has recorded since 1967.

The concert location will be given upon reservation by calling (818) 6218309 or emailing BodieHouse@aol.com.
