Critter Tale
Family rescues injured fawn

COMPASSION- Milan Vosvick of Malibu comforts an injured fawn he found in his garden in Latigo Canyon. After transporting the fawn to the California Wildlife Canter, Vosvick learned the animal had to be euthanized because the fawn's injuries were too severe.
On Mother's Day, a Malibu family was excited to see a deer and her fawn in their garden, until they discovered the baby deer was injured.

Milan Vosvick, Ziva Santop and their daughter Gaia SantopVosvick covered the fawn with a blanket and called animal control officers. Vosvick, who suspected the animal had been hit by a car, held and calmed the fawn for three hours while waiting for animal control to arrive.

Finally Santop called the California Wildlife Center to find out what else they could do. "They said if we could bring the fawn down they would wait for us . . . and they would examine (her) and perform surgery if need be," Santop said.

As Santop drove, with Vosvick in the back of their pickup truck holding the fawn, a police officer pulled them over, then let them go.

Staff at the Wildlife Center were waiting when the family arrived. The fawn was sedated so its injuries could be examined. According to a spokesperson at the Wildlife Center, the fawn had compound fractures in both back legs and possible internal injuries and had to be euthanized.
