District's members should be elected

Why should the rate payers of Triunfo Sanitation District have three appointed board members and only two directly elected ones? That means that decisions can be made about rates and projects by people who do not even live in the district. Don't those of us who live in Oak Park, Lake Sherwood, the Westlake portion of Thousand Oaks and a portion of North Ranch residents deserve to elect our officials like most of the rest of Ventura County?

I strongly believe we deserve an all-elected governing board, and that is why, as chairperson of the Triunfo board, I requested that governance be on the agenda for the April meeting.

Unfortunately, when board members voted, Supervisor Linda Parks and I supported choosing by election, and the other three members voted against it. I am very disappointed that Tom Glancy of the Thousand Oaks City Council, James Acosta of Saticoy Sanitation and Ron Stark, elected from Oak Park, chose not to give the vote to residents of the Triunfo District.

I look forward to the day when all board members will be elected. I am confident that day will come, even if it is necessary to put the choice of election on the ballot for all of us to vote on it. It would just be much simpler and less expensive if the present board could do the right thing and give us the vote now. Janna Orkney, board member Triunfo Sanitation District
