Chaminade students rally for awareness

The Chaminade College Preparatory High School sponsored an Awareness Week in April, culminating with a Rally for Change on April 27.

Although the rally was planned prior to the shootings at Virginia Tech, the event took on new meaning and greater emphasis in light of that tragedy.

The Chaminade student council focused on helping students be more aware of how they treat one another on campus.

One hundred students wore yellow T-shirts to school that pose questions such as, "Who have you offended today?" or "Who have you excluded today?" The 100 students, together with school counselors and the principal, then talked about the reactions of the student body to the shirts and also to awareness posters displayed on campus.

The rally ended by asking students to "Be the change they want to see in the world." Students, faculty, and staff received a button with this quote imprinted on it.

The school is at 7500 Chaminade Ave., West Hills. For more information, call (818) 3478300.
