Cats lost in accident found unharmed

The three cats lost after a vehicle accident near Thousand Oaks on April 28 were all found and captured by May 4. Aside from a minor foot injury to one, all the animals are healthy and are at the home of a family friend.

The pets- two domestic shorthair females and a black shorthair male- were located by cat rescue organizations. Local residents Carol Olson and Jan Irwin volunteered their efforts to lead the recovery efforts. Irwin runs LIFE rescue and Olson works with feral cat spaying/neutering.

Groups involved in the rescue efforts included Tender Heart Haven and Valley Veterinarian, both of Simi Valley, and LIFE Animal Rescue of Agoura and Animal Match Rescue Team Inc., both of Agoura Hills.

A family from Oakland was riding in an RV with their pets southbound on the 101 toward Los Angeles when the vehicle rolled down a bank. Two injured family members are staying at a relative's house in Los Angeles while continuing medical treatment. The father and one child were unhurt.

The family dog was rescued by Agoura Animal Control after the accident and is with the family. One cat was killed in the accident. The other three cats had run away from the crash site.
