Summit to address emergency measures The first in a series of "Emergency Preparedness Summits" for leaders of faithbased communities, hosted by the city of Thousand Oaks, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Fri., May 18 at the Scherr Forum Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. The summits, organized by the Ventura County Fire Department, aim to help spiritual leaders and congregations throughout Ventura County with disaster planning and relief. Participants will hear from leaders of local fire, law enforcement, health and relief organizations on how to best prepare for and respond to emergencies. They will learn about such topics as what to expect in a disaster, obtaining local and federal assistance, and creating a disaster plan. The event is free and open to the faith-based community and the private sector, with an RSVP deadline of Thurs., May 10 to larry.modugno@ventura.org. Future "Emergency Preparedness Summits" are in the works for cities throughout Ventura County. The next will be held in Camarillo on Fri., June 15.
