RECOGNIZE A RATTLER- McGyver, a 3-year-old German shepherd owned by Phebe Friedman of Malibu, learns how to avoid a rattlesnake under the direction of dog trainer Patrick Callaghan in an event sponsored by the Santa Monica Mountains Restoration Trust. Callaghan, a professional trainer for more than 40 years, works with organizations from national search and rescue to train dogs to recognize rattlesnakes, avoid them, and alert their owners.
