Boutiques help cancer survivors

Godiva's Secret Wigs and Godiva's After Dark, both owned by Rochelle Scott, are upscale boutiques where women, especially cancer patients and survivors, may feel comfortable in re-creating their looks and romantic feelings after their fight with cancer.

"We specialize in women undergoing chemotherapy and are highly referred by hospitals, oncologists and our loyal clients," said Scott, winner of the 2006 Woman of Distinction Award by the Valley Business Journal.

The two new side-by-side stores in Thousand Oaks, Godiva's Secret Wigs and Godiva's After Dark: A Boutique for Romance, opened their doors with a ribbon cutting and champagne celebration yesterday.

The grand opening featured the cutting of a 30-foot "money ribbon" running the length of both stores, which was presented to Julie Talbert of the Talbert Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funds local families with unexpected illnesses that cause financial challenges.

According to Scott, Godiva's Secret Wigs carries the most realistic wigs and hair additions ever made. Whether a woman is looking for wigs for convenience, travel or hair loss due to stress or medical challenges, the staff is trained to listen to the customer's needs and then offer knowledgeable advice.

The staff's upbeat attitude and friendly atmosphere promote a positive, healthy self-image for their clients. Discounts are offered to women undergoing chemotherapy and include trimming and styling for free.

"We help women fit into their current life more comfortably, and we also address the psychological tips that make their transition into wig wear easier," said Scott.

Godiva boutiques are at 2410 and 2412 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. Scott also has two stores in Woodland Hills- Godiva's Secret Wigs at 22700 Ventura Blvd., and Godiva's After Dark at 22565 Ventura Blvd.
