Calabasas up for All-America City honor

Calabasas is a finalist for the 2007 National Civic League All-America City Award, the nation's oldest and most prestigious civic recognition program. The award recognizes exemplary community vision, collaborative problemsolving and inclusiveness to meet local challenges.

The 21 finalists will participate in the All-America City competition June 68 in Anaheim.

"This program spotlights hope and a can-do spirit behind the ability to achieve results," said Gloria Rubio-Cortés, National Civic League president.

During the threeday competition, a delegation from each community will present their innovative programs and local solutions to a jury of their peers from across the United States. The presentations will address a wide range of social and economic issues including youth, education, poverty, housing, sustainability, immigration integration and race relations.

A jury of national business, government, philanthropic and nonprofit agency leaders will select the top 10 communities based on their presentations and applications.

"This celebration of community spirit and success is a lifechanging experience for all participants," said Robert Rawson Jr., the league's chairman of the board. "We think people from all walks of life will be energized by these communities that illustrate what is great about America."

The All-America City Award is in its 58th year.
