What's new on DVD this month

Film and television author Randy Williams reviews the latest movies, television shows, documentaries and music programs now available for purchase online or at your retail store.

The Last King of Scotland (Fox)- Forest Whitaker delivers an Oscar-winning performance as Uganda's brutal dictator Idi Amin. Bonus material includes a profile of Whitaker and cut scenes.

The Pursuit of Happyness (Sony)- Inspiring true story of a San Francisco salesman Chris Gardner (Will Smith) trying to survive while raising his young son (Jaden Smith) alone. Extras include a conversation with Chris Gardner, inside the Rubik's Cube and the "I Can" song.

The Queen (Miramax)- Helen Mirren won an Academy Award as Best Actress portraying Queen Elizabeth in this drama that takes you inside the private chambers of the Royal Family.

Volver (Sony)- Directed by two-time Oscar winner Pedro Almodovar, Penelope Cruz leads an ensemble of actresses in a tale of love, loss and forgiveness. Extras include cast interviews.

Overlord (Criterion)- Incorporating archival footage within a fictional story, the film presents WWII through the eyes of a young soldier's journey from basic training to the terror of battle. Many features include newsreels about combat cameramen and a British propaganda short.

Major League-Wild Thing Edition (Paramount)- A busload of misfit ballplayers (Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger) take the losing Cleveland Indians to unlikely success despite the undermining efforts of their scheming new female owner.

Planet Earth (BBC Warner)- Incorporating innovative high-speed cameras, using high definition photography filmed over six years from 200 locations, this five disc series presents a stunning visual splendor of the sights and sounds of nature as never seen before. From the Arctic to the Amazon to life at the ocean depths, the footage is without parallel. Bonus features include behind the scenes material and a look at what the future may hold for endangered animals and habitats.

Not Just the Best of Larry Sanders (Sony)- They aren't kidding. Eight hours of newly produced material, a feature-length documentary and deleted scenes are part of this two-disc set that includes 23 episodes of Garry Shandling's hilarious look at talk show television.

The Odd Couple-Season One (Paramount)- The fastidious photographer (Tony Randall) and sloppy sportswriter (Jack Klugman), one of the great comedy duos in television history, are here in 24 episodes. Intros by producer Garry Marshall and cast talk show appearances included.

Batman Beyond/Justice League Unlimited (Warner Bros)- The final seasons of two DC Comics classics on separate discs. Both include 13 episodes and multiple behind the scenes features.

The Wild, Wild West- The Second Season (Paramount)- Agents Artemus Gordon (Ross Martin) and James West (Robert Conrad) in protecting President Ulysses Grant face all manners of dastardly schemers and evil subversives. Twenty-eight episodes are brilliantly remastered on seven discs.

The Streets of San Francisco-Season One (Paramount)- The acclaimed police drama stars detective Mike Stone (Karl Malden) and his young partner, inspector Steve Keller (Michael Douglas). Extras include the complete pilot for the series.

Wide World of Sports-40 Years of Glory (ESPN)- Truly "spanning the globe," one of America's most popular sports shows comes to DVD. Hosted by the venerable Jim McKay, it showcases a broad array of athletic competition from Lance Armstrong to Evel Knievel.
