Audubon Society hosts field trips

The Conejo Valley Audubon Society will present birding field trips in May. The group's website is www.ConejoValleyAudubon.org.

+Pine Mountain, Sun., May 6: An allday outing with a picnic at Pine Mountain Campground. Bring heavy jacket and gloves, water and lunch. Expected sightings include greentailed towhee, purple finch, mountain chickadee and whiteheaded woodpecker. Meet at Los Posas Park-and-Ride at 7:30 a.m. Trip leader is Dee Lyon, (805) 499-2165. Bring car pool money.

+Beginner's bird walk, Thurs., May 10: Call Angie at (818) 991-4055 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. for RSVP and location.

+Fillmore Fish Hatchery and Lake Piru, Sat., May 12: Expect to see herons, egrets, warblers, bluebirds and osprey. Meet at Janss Park-and-Ride at 8 a.m. or at the Fish Hatchery at 8:30 a.m. Trip leader is Tom Halpin, (805) 746-4598.

+Malibu Creek State Park, Sun., May 20: Sightings should include orioles, woodpeckers and many riparian birds. Trip leader is Kevin Pickard, (805) 492-6962. Meet at Rancho Park-and-Ride at 8 a.m. to car pool.

+Sepulveda Wildlife Refuge, Sat., May 26: Water birds and many warblers, sparrows and the unexpected, such as Red Bishop, are possible sightings. Chrystal Klabund, the trip leader, can be reached at (805) 522-8023.
