CHS grad to play in Pan American Maccabi Games Jennifer Bernstein of Calabasas has been appointed by Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel as a member of the Youth Tennis team representing the United States at the 11th Pan American Maccabi Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The games will take place Dec. 26 through Jan. 2, 2008. Bernstein, a 2006 graduate of Calabasas High and fouryear varsity tennis team member, is currently a freshman at the University of Arizona, where she plays on an intramural tennis team. During her career for the Coyotes, Bernstein helped CHS win a pair of CIFSouthern Section championships. She was named second-team all-league on three occasions and was a first-team doubles squad member in 2005. Bernstein was a Team USA competitor at the Maccabi Australia International Games in June and at the JCC Maccabi Games, winning a gold medal in 2004 and a bronze in 2003. She said she was honored to be a member of the USA Youth Tennis team and is very excited to represent her country. "I am excited to meet athletes from around the nation and to have a great time both on and off the tennis court," Bernstein said. Since 1948, Maccabi USA/ Sports for Israel has sought to enrich the lives of Jewish youth in the United States, Israel and throughout the Diaspora through athletic, cultural and educational programs. The organization is the sponsor of the U.S. team to the World Maccabiah Games in Israel, the world's third largest international sporting event. It also sponsors U.S. participation in Maccabi competitions in Pan America, Europe and Australia and supports Jewish youth through the JCC Maccabi Games. |
