Yard sale to raise funds for breast cancer

The Walkers for Knockers team will have a yard sale to raise funds for the Los Angeles Avon Walk for Breast Cancer from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., April 28 at 2388 Adrian St., Newbury Park.

The team has a fundraising target of $25,000 and to date has raised $4,537. Each walker will raise a minimum of $1,800 to qualify to walk the 39.3 mile event on Sept. 15 and 16.

Team captains Debbie Downey and Linda Escoto walked 117.9 miles in the Avon Walks for Breast Cancer in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York last year.

The team has 12 women and men who walked or crewed in the Los Angeles event last year. All the team members have a loved one who has been affected by this disease.

Participants also want to raise awareness of the disease so women do routine self-exams and get yearly mammograms. Until a cure is found, early detection is essential.
