Two scenarios for Agoura Road

There are two scenarios. Mary Altman's and the Agoura Village Plan.

Imagine you drive down Agoura Road. Under Mary Altman's desire to undermine the Agoura Village Plan, we would see a vast parking lot with a set lube shop. Next to that another parking lot, a group of large big-name stores such as Michael's, Quizno's, Petsmart, more parking and possibly a bank.

Think about the area of Lindero and Thousand Oaks Boulevard near Costco. If you want to go from the bank to get a sandwich you get back in your car to drive across the vast parking lot to get there. How many people do you see walking from Vons shopping center to Ralphs shopping center?

Across the street there would be another large parking lot with a business park. Farther down there would be an apartment complex, as the city is required by the state of California to increase the number of housing units, including an increase in the number of low-income options.

Now imagine walking, bicycling or driving down the same stretch of Agoura Road under the Agoura Village Plan. The streets are tree-lined with wide sidewalks. The buildings come up to meet you as you approach the sidewalks. There will be parking; however, it will be broken up into smaller sections, and it will be behind the village.

You will have a variety of eateries and shops, as well as several community gathering spots where you can sit outside, relax and enjoy our beautiful views. For the lucky people who will live and/or work in the lofts above the shops and in the adjacent town houses there will be the opportunity to walk from the bank to the sandwich shop in this pedestrian-friendly environment without having to even use a car.

This land is privately owned and something will be built.

Please, for the good of this community, let go and let our community proceed with this much-needed town center.
