Should public pay for trip abroad?

Do you know how the Oak Park Unified School District is wasting money that could be better spend on our children? A glance at the agenda for the upcoming OPUSD board meeting scheduled for April 17 reveals that the district intends to approve "out of country travel" for Superintendent Tony Knight.

Apparently Mr. Knight believes that a part of his job as superintendent of our little school district is to travel all the way to the University of Warwick in Coventry, England so that he can present at the World Council for Gifted Education.

That the OPUSD, a district that should be frugal with the limited dollars available, believes it is prudent to squander our limited financial resources to send Mr. Knight to England is an outrage. I hope the residents of Oak Park will remember this lack of judgment the next time the OPUSD asks us to approve a multi-million dollar bond issue.

Board of education meetings are open to the public. I urge you to attend the next board meeting or to send an email to the members of the board and make your feelings known.

This is precisely why so many of the Oak Park residents are rightfully distrustful of the board and Tony Knight. Thomas Rouse Oak Park
