What about the kids' freedom?

In response to Nancy Goldsen's April 5 letter where it was said, "Freedom without rules is anarchy," rules are fine except when they categorically state that children are not permitted to play outside their own homes.

The interaction with childhood friends helps set a course for a child's development and social skills in later life.

People with children buy houses here because they like the house and the school district, not the HOA rule book. The wording in the HOA rule book is written in such a way that instead of saying children are not permitted to play outside, it's spread out over three paragraphs and very easily missed.

The first you are made aware of these rules is when the HOA berates your child and sends a letter threatening fines.

New homeowners who have moved into the Country Vistas III neighborhood over the last few months were totally unaware of the ban on kids playing, and one of the single parents stated that if she had known this rule existed she would not have purchased the house.

Stop hiding behind the rule book- it is absolutely wrong to confine children to their homes. You are not even allowed to ride a bicycle on this estate. Derek Gardner Oak Park
