Local foster youth chosen for new European Adventures program An emancipated foster youth from Moorpark is one of the first participants in a threeweek European tour sponsored by Support for the Kids. Support for the Kids is a Thousand Oaks-based nonprofit organization that for more than a decade has provided tutors, enrichment, cultural events, school supplies and college tours for foster and underprivileged children in Camarillo and countywide. "European Adventures: Paths to Life's Possibilities" is its newest program, aiming to provide emancipated foster youth ages 18 and up with a major travel experience that will broaden their perspectives and encourage them in life. Judy Ann Miyara of Moorpark was selected for the trip, chaperoned by Buzz's Sport Tours of Agoura Hills. During this trip, more than 20 young people will spend 21 days in June visiting nine European countries. Some of the scheduled sites include Buckingham Palace, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the French Riviera, St. Peter's Square, Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Italian coast along the Mediterranean, Switzerland, the Dachau concentration camp, Mozart's Austrian birthplace and Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. "Our board of directors is proud to have launched this important new program for young people who are required to leave the county foster system at the age of l8 and are in great need of opportunity," said Lynda Miller, president and founder of Support for the Kids. "European Adventures is a priceless experience educationally and emotionally." Support for the Kids is presently working to inspire new donors to its European Adventures Program and plans to sponsor two to 10 emancipated foster youth every year, depending on community funds raised.
