Special ed advocacy course

A special education advocacy course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sat., April 21, May 5 and May 19 at California Lutheran University, Humanities Building room 112.

The course will help parents navigate the school system and regional centers and teaches how to create an individualized education program. The course, presented by Rene Folse, PhD, and PAUSE4kids, is also intended to recruit and train attorneys and other advocacy professionals.

The cost for attorneys taking the course for MCLE credits is $225 per day or $500 for all 18 hours. The cost for families and others not taking the course for credit is $50. Exceptions will be made for families with financial hardship.

Proceeds will be donated to PAUSE4kids, a nonprofit organization.

Units include updates from the IDEA Act of 2004 and regulations adopted in 2006.
