More about those pesky CC&Rs To Mr. Gardner (Acorn, March 22), CC&R stands for Covenants, Conditions and Rules, and they are part of every community that shares community space. Freedom without rules is anarchy. Everyone who buys property in these types of communities is bound by the rules when they purchase and should read and understand them fully and be prepared to abide by those rules. Just like a helmet for a motorcyclist, it is for the good of all. It is people like you what want to play the ACLU card even though you knowingly entered into an agreement when you chose to reside in this community. No, it is not all about the children. It is about respecting all residents' rights, and in these closely confined (even connected to your nextdoor neighbor's wall) neighborhoods it is imperative that enforcement be consistent. It sounds like a single-family home would be more appropriate for your needs. Mr. Leinwand is correct. Changes can be made but only as set forth as California law prescribes. It is tough to get changes, but if you really want them you will have to work to get them. If "all the parents," as you describe, are in favor, you should have no trouble getting the votes to make the changes you seek. Good luck. Nancy Goldsen Calabasas |
