And what about wildlife? I am writing in response to Guy Havive's letter regarding the eruv (Jewish boundary marker) in Oak Park. I was very displeased with your lack of compassion for wildlife. You do not care about two birds flying into the eruv being killed. May I remind you that the same God who created me and you created those two birds. Regarding your desire to reinstate the eruv, that is fine with me as long as the Christian community can put up some sort of Christianity symbol in our community. Yes, there are many Jewish communities; however, there are many Christian communities as well. We do not feel the eruv is appropriate, as the fishing wire is ugly, and when I say this I know many others feel the same way. The eruv makes me claustrophobic, and it takes away from the beauty of this area. You said that eruvs are not uncommon; however, I have yet to see any other eruvs nor has my family who grew up in the Los Angeles area. I have one question for you, Guy: what is one good reason we should keep this eruv up? My aunt is Jewish, and I hold the Jewish religion in very high regard, but I disagree with you on this topic of being surrounded by fishing wire, which is not very pleasing to look at.
