Water-themed activities, music planned

NOT A FLUKE- A sailboat made entirely of recycled materials will be featured during Dr. Marcus Eriksen's presentation for the Algalita Marine Research Foundation at the Stream to Sea day.
In conjunction with Earth Day, Mountains Restoration Trust, the cities of Calabasas and Malibu, and Las Virgenes Municipal Water District will sponsor Stream to Sea, a family fun day from noon to 4 p.m. Sat., April 28 at Headwaters Corner Interpretive Center, 23075 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas, in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Admission is free with free parking and shuttle service from Calabasas High School, 22855 W. Mulholland Hwy.

The event offers handson opportunities for families to learn "water-wise" approaches to help protect waterways and oceans. Attendees can participate in a variety of water-themed activities while collecting stamps on a "Passport to the Sea."

Dr. Marcus Eriksen of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation will bring his sailboat, the "Fluke," made entirely from recycled materials, to raise awareness about plastic debris on streets, beaches, in wetlands and oceans.

Other presenters include Mollie Hogan of The Nature of Wildworks, aquatic animals from Pepperdine University Natural Science Division and the National Theatre for Children performing "Boatload of Trouble."

There will also be live music and an appearance by Inkie the Octopus, the costumed character sponsored by Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier.

The Earth Day celebration is one of many public programs offered by the trust at Headwaters Corner at Calabasas.
