Sunrise for seniors is no Costco

In the article "Hospital site could become new home for seniors" on March 15, the comparison between the proposed Sunrise facility and two Costco stores is inappropriate.

The different natures of the Sunrise Senior Living fullservice retirement community and a Costco makes this an inflammatory comparison.

The Sunrise building would not have nearly the impact of one Costco store. For example, according to the city, a Costco would generate about 524 peakhour vehicle trips, while the Sunrise representatives stated that their proposed facility would generate only 35 peakhour trips.

There is too much at stake to judge this project based on comparisons of this nature. We need to conscientiously plan for the future of Westlake Village. It is in everyone's interest to provide a place for our seniors to live out their retirement here. The City Council members and the Sunrise representatives began that process in the Feb. 28 meeting.
