Support injured motorcycle cop

Two weeks ago, Dep. Mike Ranes, one of our Lost Hills motor deputies, in pursuit of a speeding car, collided with a woman who pulled out in front of his motorcycle. Dep. Ranes sustained nearly a dozen broken bones, a bleeding spleen and fractured a bone in his face. I would like to ask the community to think about and pray for Mike Ranes, his family and all our deputies who risk their lives every day for our safety.

It was only six months ago that Dep. Jim Mulay was run over by a bank robber and lay in a coma for two days with lifethreatening injuries. I didn't read or see as many stories about these heroes' efforts or the trials of their families as compared to the myriad of headline stories whenever a sheriff or police officer is perceived to do something wrong.

There's something wrong in this picture. I believe The Acorn owes the community a responsibility to investigate and report whenever our protectors are injured or if they make arrests of criminals who could potentially harm any of us.

Let's not take these guys and gals for granted. When you see them, give them a big smile and a thank you. Paul Scrivano Agoura Hills
