Longing for Lowe's The Lowe's project was recently defeated primarily with the idea that Westlake is just a village and such a project was beyond the pale. When we end up with more office buildings people will long for Lowe's. I'm looking out my window at a mansion of a thousand square feet. I, in my condo, feel like one of its outbuildings. The people next door to it are sick each time they look out the window to see it looming over them. I thought this was not going to happen again after the huge white mansion on Triunfo went up, after which there was a huge flap. I was under the impression that this was not going to happen again. But five minutes from me on the island a gigantic place is going up at the end of Mariner Circle. It looms over the little house next door like a monstrosity. Perhaps the HOA in control there approved it, but you can be sure they wouldn't have approved it if it were looming over one of them. All over Southern California this problem of mansionization exists. People put up huge mansions with no concern for their neighbors. Often these mansions are third or fourth houses of the owners. I think the City Council should take control of this issue and prohibit such building that so outstrips the neighborhood. The mansion I'm looking at belongs in North Ranch with some property around it, not in a place where they build on every foot of the lot and tower over their neighbors. People, watch out what's going up near you. City Council, take control. Marilyn Luneberg Westlake Village |
