The right to 'rock the boat' On Feb. 22 I was proud to swear the Oath of Allegiance and become an American citizen. To do this I had to take a civics test. I know how many stars and stripes there are on the flag and what they symbolize. I was in awe of the Constitution and the rights conferred to me in this land I call "home." I was amazed by the concept of "checks and balances." I love my home and my community in Oak Park. I trust in our country as a democratic republic, and I know that even the supreme law of our land, the Constitution, can be amended. One of the letters in last week's Acorn regarding the HOA CC&Rs is headlined, "Don't rock the HOA boat." My question is, "Why not?" HOA rules are not set in stone. If enough people want a change, then surely they have the right to ask for a change. I would also like to note that in the original article it was not mentioned that some of the incidents were not actually from the HOA board, officially. A member of the board was leaving unofficial notes and bullying children when he saw them outside. In closing, I believe we should respect others' opinions and keep an open mind to resolve situations to grow and prosper as a community. Apinder Bal Oak Park |
