Agoura club gives libraries book about women who are making a difference

To promote awareness of International Women's Month in March, the Agoura Valley Woman's Club donated copies of the book, "Imagining Ourselves, Global Voices from a New Generation of Women" to local public and high school libraries.

The book presents the photography, paintings, poetry, fiction, songs and essays of 105 young women from 47 countries. The book is published by the International Museum of Women.

The book includes stories about such young women as Nasra Abubakar, a Somalian camel-farmer's daughter who is the first in her family to go to college, and Anita Khemka, who examines the generation gap between different generations of teenage girls in urban India.

According to the publisher, "the young women in this book inspire and encourage readers to take action to transform their own life and the world around them. Enlightening, uplifting, challenging and funny, 'Imagining Ourselves' demonstrates the power of each individual life and the collective power of today's generation of women as a whole."

"Our club hopes that this book will inspire local women and provide a different way to view the contributions of women," said Theresa Cohun, club president. "The international content of the book helps us all to remember our global connection and impact."
