Earth Day cleanup scheduled The California State Parks Foundation will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup Program at state and community parks throughout California on Sat., April 21. Volunteers of all ages are needed to help restore California's state parks. Statewide, volunteers will plant native trees and community gardens, restore trails and wildlife habitats, install recycling bins, remove trash and debris from beaches and parklands, and make overdue repairs to fences and boardwalks. Individuals or groups interested in volunteering should leave their contact information on the Earth Day Hotline at (888) 98-PARKS (987-2757). A list of volunteer project sites can be found at www.calparks.org. Cleanup events include Malibu Lagoon State Beach at the intersection of Cross Creek Road and Pacific Coast Highway. Volunteers should meet at the picnic area. The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Water and gloves will be provided; participants should bring sunscreen. Volunteers will participate in trash pickup and remove large debris, as well as trim back non-native plant species and paint over major graffiti along the cement bridge.
