A final word on the HOAs

The Westlake Ranch Property Owners Association and the Euclid Management Co. let down the citizens of Westlake Village . . . again!

The annual meeting of the HOA was held Feb.20 to elect a new board of directors. But surprise, surprise, few showed other than the board members, the owner and staff of Euclid Management Co., and a few hapless members like myself. As a result, no quorum was reached and a new board could not be selected.

The board president and the owner lamented in great detail all the reasons why they were hamstrung by state regulations and a lack of community interest. Not their fault, they opined. In fact they asserted, some 60 members did not even have the presence of mind to correctly fill out the ballots. Therefore, they disqualified themselves.

How wrong they are. The simple truth is that the board and the management company are directly responsible for this dismal response. They have created an unacceptable climate of poor communication, self-interested decision making and overwhelming bureaucracy.

No wonder no one shows up for these meetings or bothers to participate. Why would they?

Too bad. As dues-paying members and concerned citizens, we deserve better. Scott Nelson Westlake Village
