Way to go, voter

The voters are to be commended for rejecting the dirtiest campaign in Calabasas history.

Toby Keeler and the anonymous committees that backed his candidacy ran a campaign marked by hypocrisy, deceit and mudslinging.

Keeler appealed to westside Calabasas voters by falsely blaming the current City Council for the Shea Homes project that was carved into the scenic hillsides along Las Virgenes Road. Unfortunately, Keeler neglected to inform voters that as a former planning commissioner, he cast the tie-breaking vote to approve the very same 48-home Shea project he now condemns as "urban blight" and a "wall of development."

Keeler campaigned as an uncompromising opponent of overdevelopment. Regrettably, he forgot to tell voters that during his years on the planning commission he voted to approve approximately 1 million square feet of new development in Calabasas.

Keeler's backers mailed vicious, last-minute "hit pieces" full of untruths and distortions attacking the integrity and character of Barry Groveman. This was not just politics as usual. There is no place in our Calabasas city elections for such dirty tactics that amount to character assassination.

My husband, Gary, is a longtime member of the planning commission. He has worked with both Barry Groveman and Toby Keeler for years. Gary personally attests to Barry Groveman's wellearned reputation for honesty, integrity, fairness and objectivity. The voters were wise to reelect Groveman and reject Keeler's hypocritical mudslinging. Charlene Klein Calabasas
