Camp Kinneret gears up for summer

Camp Kinneret Summer Day Camp will host open houses on Sun., March 18 and April 22 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for families to tour the site and learn more about the program from the staff and directors. The campsite is at 29646 Agoura Road between Kanan and Reyes Adobe roads.

Children enroll for two, three, four or five days each week. The camp season is from June 25 through August 24.

Celebrating its 53rd camping season, Camp Kinneret's reputation is having camp families return year after year. Kinneret provides a safe camp program for children ages 4 to 14.

At the 40acre campsite, children participate in horseback riding, swimming, archery, nature, music, gymnastics, camp crafts, basketball, volleyball, soccer, challenge ropes courses, rock-wall climbing, beach trips, overnights, hikes, cooperative field games, woodworking and more. The college-aged staff is carefully selected and trained.

According to camp organizers, "The camp has a warm extendedfamily feeling that provides campers with a fun, positive environment in which to try new experiences and develop new skills while playing with new and old friends in a well-supervised and safe setting."

"Children have only one summer each year. Our job is to ensure that their summer camp experience is the best it can possibly be, and we've been doing that for over 50 years. The last 35 of those years, right here in Agoura," said Harold Gordon, senior director.

Camp Kinneret provides transportation with certified school bus drivers and seat belted, airconditioned school buses with camp counselors on board each bus.

The camp is a long-standing accredited member of the American Camp Association and is also an active member of the Western Association of Independent Camps.

Some age groups and day combinations fill up by early spring. There is still limited space in camp for campers of all ages.
